SEA TURTLES
As part of its project to preserve the sea and its coastlines, WWF Italy is specifically committed to the protection of the Loggerhead Sea Turtle and to applied research to that end. Thanks partly to Bormioli’s contribution the WWF is working to:
1) Apply the currently available conservation techniques to the reduction of the impact of various human activities on the population of sea turtles;
2) Acquire further information on how the turtles’ biological parameters are affected by human activities, indispensable for developing new conservation techniques.
The possibilities of carrying out sanitary and environmental activities in favour of the turtles are helped by the capillary presence along the entire Italian coastline of WWF branch offices, Care Centres for Wild Animals (or C.R.A.S.) and Oases.
The Care Centres in particular have shown themselves to be highly useful at a local level as meeting places and focal points for activities related to turtle research and conservation. As permanent bases they also have great potential for building lasting cooperation with local authorities and fishing enterprises. Bormioli is especially active in supporting the Care Centre for Loggerhead Turtles on the island of Lampedusa. Open the video link and discover the passion that goes into caring for these creatures.
